Tasks
This is a list of possible tasks that one might do to either obtain or maintain membership in the OBDC with the number of stamps they will receive. Tasks pertaining to Friday night dances at Gerlinger Hall:
*These are tasks that
require
officer approval before attempting to use them as official tasks to
obtain or
maintain OBDC membership. Please
ask an
officer or e-mail the Club (oregonballroom@gmail.com). New Members To become an OBDC member, you must complete six (6) tasks. Proof of completion will be recorded on a temporary club card signed once by an officer for every time you complete a task. This temporary card does NOT give you the privileges of a full member. Upon completion of the sixth (6th) task you shall receive your membership card accompanied by all the privileges and duties of an OBDC member. This membership card will have twelve (12) spaces with the first six (6) filled. It is then your responsibility to complete the last six (6) tasks by the end of the term in order to maintain your membership and obtain new card for the following term (‘term’ being each of the school terms – Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer – as observed by the University of Oregon). You may not sign off tasks on membership cards unless you are an OBDC officer. After the completion of each task, it is your responsibility to seek out an OBDC officer to sign your card.
Current Members Members are required to do six tasks per term, including two required set-ups. For each task, he or she is responsible for getting his or her card stamped. Also, members are required to be on a team under an officer. This means that if the officer needs help they have someone to call on. Members are never *required* to take on the task the officer requests; they are also allowed to do tasks for other teams, as well as Friday night tasks in order to gain their stamps. Membership is free of fees and charges and only costs a bit of time. To Gain Entrance to a Dance or Workshop Show your current term membership card to the auditors. You will then receive a stamp on your hand, which allows re-entry to the event. Honorary Members Honorary members are granted free admittance to OBDC events, but no OBDC authority or voting privileges. To gain entrance they should have a club officer vouch for them. Honorary members include the founders of the OBDC, past presidents of the OBDC and people who have been granted honorary membership. In order to be granted honorary membership, members must first be elected by the current executive board. A majority vote is then required by the current OBDC members to grant elected persons honorary membership. Members who have been granted honorary membership may have their limited privileges revoked after a majority vote by the current OBDC members. Officer Elections and Meetings Officer elections are held every Spring term. Officer positions are: President, Secretary, Treasurer, Web Master, Office Manager, Music Coordinator, Teacher Coordinator, Operations Manager, Graphics and Design/Formal Decorations Manager, Advertising Coordinator, and Membership Tracker. Officer elections take place in Century Room A in the EMU on the UO campus during a weekly Monday meeting. Everyone, including pre-members, are allowed to come to the weekly meetings. As an officer, one will always have a fully stamped card and always have membership for the duration of being in office. |
